Cycling trips in the Ahr Valley
If you think that the Ahr Valley, with its mountainous character, has little to offer in the way of extended cycling trips you’d be wrong! The Ahr Cycle Way is a family-friendly – even children can easily cope with this cycle route – cycle path along the Ahr Valley.
Following the course of the romantic River Ahr, the cycle way wends its way past wild river landscapes, through meadows full of wild flowers and herbs, leafy forests and past jagged rock formations. Beginning in Sinzig, the 80 kilometre-long cycle way follows the Ahr through the red wine paradise that is the Ahr Valley, famous for centuries for its viticulture, to Blankenheim. Of course, you can also join the cycle way in Blankenheim and ride down to Sinzig.
Following the Ahr, this cycling trip leads you along well-maintained cycle paths and sealed forest tracks, through picturesque scenery and vine-clad slopes. The majority of the Ahr Cycle Way is pretty flat, making this cycle route ideal for hobby cyclists or cyclists with children in tow. The Ahr Cycle Way is particularly suited to cycling holidaymakers or weekenders, inviting those who cycle it to pause frequently and enjoy the beauty of the landscape.
Of course, we’d especially like to recommend the Restaurant Ruland in Altenahr as the perfect spot for taking refreshments while pedalling the Ahr Cycle Way. Those wishing to complete the cycling trip in two stages, will find fitting accommodation in the Hotel Ruland, situated on the Ahr Cycle Way in Altenahr, approximately halfway along the Ahr Cycle Way.
